Wisely's papers contain professional correspondence; drafts and notes for speeches and books; off-prints and reports; research files; materials from various engineering societies including minutes and newsletters; and teaching materials. Correspondence chiefly concerns the formation of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations. There are also comments from colleagues on some of Wisely's speeches and editorials, and responses to surveys and questionnaires on ethics. Drafts of his book "The American civil engineer, 1852-1974" constitute the bulk of his writings although there are also notes for speeches, and articles by colleagues. Research files contain articles, correspondence, reports, photos., clippings and notes re the Aswan Dam, engineering as a profession including education, licensing and ethics, environmental conservation, new towns, solid waste management, urban demographics and planning, and water pollution control. Engineering society materials include records, minutes, speeches, reports and writings re the American Society of Civil Engineers; the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and its predecessors; the Conference of Engineering Societies of Western Europe and the United States of America; the Fédération Européene d'Associations Nationales d'Ingénieurs; the Institucion de Ingenieria; and the Union Panamericana de Asociaciones de Ingenieros. Teaching materials include lectures and hand-outs.
